Parent Involvement
Although
the time commitment of a cooperative preschool exceeds that of a traditional
preschool, many parents feel the benefits to both child and parent far outweigh
the extra work involved. That said, being a “co-op” parent is not for everyone.
At Community Cooperative Preschool, our success depends on all parents donating
their time and talents in a variety of ways. Parents are required to serve as
assistants in the classroom regularly: about one to two times every four to
six weeks.
In addition, each parent serves on either a committee or the executive board, and fulfills a variety of other duties as necessary, from cleaning the classroom to driving on field trips to attending three mandatory evening corporation meetings and supporting fundraising events. Parents spend on average 6 hours a month on classroom, committee, and meeting commitments combined. Below is a list of the 2005-2006 board and committee positions that are integral to CCP’s success as a preschool:
